- Month and year of birth given as November 1851 in 1900 U.S. Census for Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, E.D. 551, Sheet 13B, Line 94. Place of birth given as Ireland, with both parents born in Ireland. Enumerated as Ellen McGuire, with husband John McGuire, children, and nieces and nephew. This Ellen is assigned to the Ellen Dolan known from John Joseph Dolan's notes on the basis of the Mullen children being referenced as niece and nephew, since they are known from other records as being the children of Anne Dolan and Michael Mullen. In addition to this Census record, the listing for Mary Ann McCanney in her 1900 passenger arrival listing at Ellis Island contains a notation that she was bound for 3714 Wallace Street, Philadelphia. Since Mary Ann McCanney was the daughter of Mary Dolan (Ellen's younger sister who remained in Ireland), this record gives further proof that Ellen Dolan McGuire was the daughter of John and Margaret Ellen Dolan of Seegronan Townland outside Killeter.

OTHER FAMILY HISTORY NOTES:
According to oral family history that has come down through her descendants, Ellen Dolan McGuire was very active in encouraging her Irish relatives to emigrate to the United States, and offered her home as a base from which they could begin their lives in America. This is evidenced by the mention of her address in the immigration record of her niece, Mary Ann McCanney, and in the willingness of Ellen to raise her nieces and nephew as her own children after the death of her sister, Anne Dolan McMullen.
