  • Notes
    • BIRTH:
Identified as a sibling of Peter Dolan by John Joseph Dolan, a nephew, in informal notes.
This may be the same William Dolan who is listed as a witness to the marriage of John Dolan and Susan McGuire in 1884. If so, then he was likely born in the early 1860s, in order to be old enough to serve as a witness.
Year of birth would be before 1866, as he was listed as an adult ("full over 21") in his 1887 marriage record to Bridget Haughey. This record gives his father's name as John Dolan, who is dead, and his address as Segronan, Strabane District, County Tyrone. All this confirms the link to this family - John Dolan of Seegronan died in 1883.
Year of birth would be 1863-1864, according to age (25 years) in 1889 birth certificate of his son, Edward Dolan.
Year of birth would be 1863-1864, according to age (26 years) in 1890 birth certificate of his son, William Dolan.
Year of birth would be 1862-1863, according to age (27 years) in New York City Death Certificate for William Dolan. FHL microfilm 1322691. Abstracted on familysearch.org. Place of birth given as Ireland. Parents named as John Dolan and Margaret K. Dolan, both born in Ireland.
Year of birth would be 1862-1863, according to age (27 years) in records of Calvary Cemetery, Queens, New York City. Information provided over the telephone to Robert M. Simon by the cemetery office on 27 February 2016.
Place of birth given as County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, in 1930 U.S. Census Record of son, Edward Vincent Dolan, 1930 U.S. Census for New York, Westchester County, E.D. 60-154, Sheet 22B, Line 72.

      MARRIAGE:
Wife named as Delia Haughey in informal notes of John Joseph Dolan, a nephew.
Full date of marriage between William Dolan and Bridget Haughey given as 9 January 1887 in records of St. Patrick's RC Church, Drumquin, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, transcribed by Fr. Kevin Mullan and provided to Robert M. Simon on 15 March 2012.
Wife named as Bridget Haughey in 1887 marriage record in Irish Civil Registration records available online (via purchase) from www.rootsireland.ie. Copy in possession of Robert M. Simon. Note on the record states that the marriage took place at Langfield RC parish of Drumquin, County Tyrone. This was the first marriage for each person.
Wife named as Mary Haughey Dolan in 1889 birth certificate of son, Edward, and 1890 birth certificate of his son, William Dolan.
Buried in same cemetery plot in Calvary Cemetery as Bridget Dolan.

      OCCUPATION:
Car driver (1890 birth certificate of son, William Dolan; 1890 Death Certificate)
Consistent with oral family history, related by his great-granddaughter, Madeleine Dolan, that he was a trolley driver.

      ADDRESS:
1886 Second Avenue, New York, New York (1890 birth certificate of son, William; 1890 death certificate) Note that this address is on Second Avenue between 97th and 99th Streets, where East Harlem merges with the Upper East Side of Manhattan. An 1897 death certificate for Mary Ann Carr Dolan (wife of William's brother Peter) gives their address as 333 East 97th Street, just a block or two from this address.

      DEATH:
Full date of death given as 3 October 1890 in New York City Municipal Deaths, 1705-1949, database on familysearch.org. Place of death given as 1886 Second Avenue, Manhattan, New York, New York--the identical address to the birth record of his son, William.
An abstract of his death certificate, also containing the above information, is attached to this record.
Consistent with lack of mention in 1892 New York State census, where his wife is listed as the head of household.
Consistent with enumeration of his children in the 1901 Census of Ireland, and the oral family history that his children were sent there after his death.

      BURIAL:
Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York City, New York (1890 New York Death Certificate). Date of burial given in the death certificate.
Burial location in Calvary Cemetery is Section 14, Range 43, Plot E (in the "Second Calvary" portion of the cemetery), according to information provided over the telephone to Robert M. Simon by the cemetery office on 27 February 2016.
