Notes - BIRTH:
Full date given on tombstone inscription Rebecca Clark in Cow Marsh Baptist Church Cemetery, as recorded on page 527 in "Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone: Kent County, Delaware, Cemetery Records," by Raymond Walter Dill, William Martin Dill, and Elizabeth Ann Bostick Dill, Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1989.
While an approximate year of birth of 1840 can be calculated from age (10 years) given in 1850 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, p. 259B, line 19, the birth order given in the census record has Rebecca between Anna (whose year of birth is assumed to be 1842) and Serepta (whose year of birth is taken as 1848). This would be consistent with a year of birth of 1845 for Rebecca. State of birth given as Delaware. Enumerated as Rebecca Herd with parents, William and Rachel Herd.
Tombstone date consistent with age (24 years) given in 1870 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, p. 148 A, line 39. Enumerated with John Clark and two sons. State of birth given as Delaware.
Tombstone date consistent with age (34 years) given in 1880 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, Vol. 1, E.D. 42, Sheet 23, Line 38.
Tombstone date consistent with age (64 years) given in 1910 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, E.D. 12, Sheet 8A, Line 9. State of birth given as Delaware. Enumerated as Rebecca Clark, with husband John Clark and children.
Tombstone date consistent with age (74 years) in 1920 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, E.D. 12, Sheet 16A, Line 9. State of birth given as Delaware.
The tombstone (for Rebecca Clark) also indicates that she is the wife of John Clark.
Full date also given in death certificate no. 2411 (1920), on microfilm in Delaware Public Archives, Hall of Records, Dover, Delaware. Parents identified as William Hurd and Rachel Clark. Informant was John Clark (husband?).
Location of birth was clearly Murderkill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware, given her parent's address in this Hundred in the 1840 and 1850 Censuses.
ADDRESSES:
Rebecca is not enumerated with her family in the 1860 U.S. Census for Delaware, but a Rebecca Hurd, age 14 years, is enumerated with the family of Thomas and Susan Reynolds (p. 350, line 29). It is not impossible that Rebecca was living as a servant to this family.
Address on death certificate was R.F.D., Felton, Kent County, Delaware.
DEATH:
Full date of death from tombstone inscription recorded in "Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone: Kent County, Delaware Cemetery Records," page 527.
Full date also from family bible records now in the possession of Nolan Francis Hutson. The record appears to be contemporaneous with the event.
Full date also given in death certificate no. 2411 (1920), on microfilm in Delaware Public Archives, Hall of Records, Dover, Delaware. Cause of death was chronic nephritis.
BURIAL:
Cow Marsh Baptist Church Cemetery, Petersburg, Delaware.
Date of burial from death certificate.
