Family history information compiled by Irene (Rena) Hurd.
Year of birth given as 1846 in tombstone inscription in Hollywood Cemetery, Section G, as recorded on page 1045 in "Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone: Kent County, Delaware, Cemetery Records," by Raymond Walter Dill, William Martin Dill, and Elizabeth Ann Bostick Dill, Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1989.
Approximate date confirmed by age (3 years) given in 1850 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, p. 264B, line 37. State of birth given as Delaware. Enumerated as Thomas Herd with parents, Thomas and Ann Herd.
Consistent with age (13 years) given in 1860 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, p. 32, line 18.

Apparently enumerated twice in 1870. "Thomas Hurd," age 23, also appears in the 1870 U.S. Census for Delaware, Kent County, on page 147B, line 27, along with his wife, Sarah A. Hurd, age 24. Enumerations only separated by 1 day (August 3 and August 4, 1870)
