OBITUARY: The following obituary was published in the Catholic News (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago), Saturday, 27 October 1906, page 4.
"Mr. Alexander Barcant
"Of late, death has been very active amongst us, and he seems to have taken a cruel pleasure in taking away those who could least be spared. This week it is our painful duty to record the death of Mr. Alexander Barcant, 70, Charlotte street, which took place on Sunday last, 21st October at 7:30 a.m.
"Mr. Barcant was one of the links which joined us with the past, being the representative of one of the oldest merchants in Trinidad. Well known in commercial circles, he was still better know by his virtuous and edifying life, and the end was worth of it. Talis vita, finis ita. Of late he had been in failing health, and the end came peacefully on Sunday morning. Father Desmond O.P. gave him Extreme Unction at 6 a.m and Father Dominic Muckian O.P. was present to say the last prayers, as his soul departed to its eternal reward. The funeral took place at the cathedral at 5 p.m. on Sunday, and was attended by an immense number of sorrowing friends. Fathers McAlinney and Muckian accompanied the cortege to the Lapeyrouse Cemetery, and recited the funeral service at the grave.
"We offer our sincere sympathy to Mrs. Barcant and family in their bereavement. R.I.P."
