    1881 advertisement for C. Barcant & Company Jewelers, Port of Spain, in the early 1881 issues of the "Trinidad Palladium" (Port of Spain newspaper). This advertisement was first placed in late 1880 and appeared in several succeeding issues of the newspaper in early 1881.

      - Merchant of jewelry in Port of Spain, located at 14 Frederick Street, in 1881, as evidenced by an advertisement in the "Trinidad Palladium," a newspaper of the era, 1 January 1881, page 2. This advertisement was repeated in several other issues of the Trinidad Palladium in early 1881.
      - Founded Trinidad Jewellry and Loan, Limited, in 1885, according to "Me and My Gal," a privately published family history by Mervyn Lewis, Trinidad and Tobago, 2010. This company was subsequently known as Trinidad Jewellry and Co., Limited, according to this source.
      - According to the Port of Spain town directory in R.J. Lechmere Guppy (ed.), "Trinidad Official and Commercial Register and Almanack for the Year of Our Lord 1888" (London: Trübner & Co., 1888), pp. 141 and 151, the address of Charles Barcant & Co. (characterized as "Jewellers, etc." and apparently operated in partnership with his brother Alexander Barcant) was at 14 Frederick Street, Port of Spain.
