Simon Brother 2 (Copy)

Closeup of daguerreotype of the second of the three Simon brothers who emigrated from Willebadessen circa 1848. Identification as one of the three brothers made by Robert Wilhelm Simon, to whom the pictures had been passed down in the German side of the Simon family. Tentatively identified (on the basis of his appearing to be the second oldest) as George Simon (1826-1886) by Robert M. Simon. This daguerreotype measures 2 inches by 2.5 inches (a so-called "ninth plate" size) and is encased in a wooden case with a thin leather covering, typical of daguerreotypes produced before 1854 (when a form of plastic case was introduced).
