OBITUARY: The following obituary appeared in the Wilmington News-Journal, 12 February 1999, Local Section, page 4B:
“MARY LOUISE WHAYLAND, 80, of Wallingford, Pa., formerly of Smyrna, Del., and Glenolden, died Wednesday in Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park. Mrs. Whayland had been a secretary at the DuPont Co. in Wilmington during World War II. She was a longtime member of Norwood United Methodist Church and was a former member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna. Her husband, William Matthew Whayland Jr., died in 1986.
“Survivors: son, William M. III of Lebanon two sisters, Margaret Hurd Maloney and Jain Anderson Hurd, both of Wallingford two grandchildren.
“Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, Norwood. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial: Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. “Contributions: Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074."
