Notes - BIRTH:
- Month and year of birth would be December 1747, given her baptismal date of 9 December 1747 in the baptismal register (Taufen, 1653-1762, page 187, nineteenth entry) in the parish records of St. Vitus RC Church, Willebadessen, Germany. Parents named as Joannes Brandt and Maria Catharina Tentman. Record available at https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/paderborn/DE_EBAP_12110/KB001-01-T/?pg=188.
- Assignment as a child of this marriage supported by the fact that her father, Johann Brand, was a baptismal witness in 1778 for her daughter Anna Christina Ursula Simon, and that her sister, Anna Christina Brand, was a baptismal witness in 1784 for her son Johann Conrad Simon.
CHRISTENING:
Full date given as 9 December 1747 in the baptismal record for Maria Elisabeth Brand in the baptismal register (Taufen, 1653-1762, page 187, nineteenth entry) in the parish records of St. Vitus RC Church, Willebadessen, Germany. Witnesses--Maria Elisabeth Tentman and Conrad Dieckmann. Record available at https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/paderborn/DE_EBAP_12110/KB001-01-T/?pg=188.
ADDRESSES:
May have been a resident of Warburg, Germany in November 1814, if she is the same Elisabeth Simon who was a godmother to Wilhelmina Hartmann. The record describes her as "stadt derselben," or "same city."
DEATH:
- Served as godmother to Anna Maria Elisabeth Simon (her granddaughter) in December 1799, Johann Joseph Rüsing (her grandson) in November 1802, and Elisabeth Rüsing (her granddaughter) in March 1808.
- Gave her oral consent to the marriage of her daughter Anna Maria Charlotta Simon in November 1813, according to the record of that marriage.
- May have been a godmother to Wilhelmina Hartmann (her granddaughter) in November 1814 -- listed in the record as Elisabeth Simon of the same city (i.e., Warburg).
- Appears to have been alive to give approval of her son's marriage in 1815.
- Not listed in the Death Name Index, 1803-1830, for the Willebadessen church records. May have died there after 1830 or perhaps in another locality.
- There is a death record for a Maria Elisabeth Brand on 28 January 1817 in Altstadt Warburg, Germany, but it does not appear that this is the Elisabeth Brand who married Johann Georg Simon. Most important, it states that she left both adult children and her husband [Ger: "hinterließ majorenen kinder und ihren gatten"], but we know that the Elisabeth Brand who married Johann Georg Simon was a widow. Her age is given as 73 years and 2 months, which would put her birth in November 1743 and not December 1747. She is also described as the wife of a cobbler [Ger: Schusters Frau], and this was not a known occupation of her late husband (his occupations were musician and tailor). So, the preponderance of evidence is against this being the correct death record. Record available at https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/paderborn/DE_EBAP_14617/KB006-02-S/?pg=36.
