      OBITUARY:
The following obituary was published in German in "Der Deutsche Correspondent," Baltimore, 23 January 1884 and the following translation is from the page for his gravestone on findagrave.com:
"One of our oldest and most ardent German adopted citizens was laid to rest yesterday at St. Alphonsus Church on Loney Lane by a large circle of his acquaintances. Mr. Bernhard Heinrich Schütte, who was born in 1809 in Fernrode, Amt Lingen, Hanover, and came to Baltimore in 1832, died of asthma last Saturday at the home, 1 South Regester Street, which he established 32 years ago and lived in with his family as a shoemaker. Forty-one years ago he married his wife, who survives him, along with four children that sprang from this happy marriage: three sons who live in Baltimore, and a married daughter in San Francisco. Mr. Schütte has always been a loyal Catholic, and was one of the founders of St. Michael's Church, whose Father Weisel held a requiem mass over the deceased before the remains were taken to St. Alphonsus Church in the richly decorated coffin. Acting as pallbearers were Messrs. H. Gier, L. Schissler, J. Schriefer, and H. Nierendecker."
