Building marked as Lot 12a in 1859 Griffith's Valuation of Seegronan Townland as belonging to Arthur Dolan (1789-1878). The portion of the building on the left, including the red metal door, was likely this structure. The portion on the right was building 12b (Thomas Meehan). An dividing side wall can be seen through a break in the front wall of what is left of building 12b.

  • Notes
    • BIRTH: Year of birth would be 1788-1789, according to age (89 years) in 1878 Irish Civil Registration of death.

MARRIAGE: Listed as a widower in his death record, so he had a wife who died before him.

      OCCUPATION: Farmer (1878 death record)

      LAND RECORDS:
      - In the 1859 Griffith's Valuation of Tenements for County Tyrone, Seegronan Townland, Arthur Dolan is listed as a joint tenant with Thomas and Miles Meehan on 99 acres in Seegronan Townland (Lot #12), with a house (designated as Lot #12a), adjacent to the lot leased by John, George, and Patrick Dolan (Lot #11).
      - In the 1860-1863 Valuation Revision Book for Seegronan Townland, the house, office, and land leased by Arthur Dolan was transferred in 1862 to Edward Skeagh.

DEATH: Full date and location given in Irish Civil Register of Deaths, Registration number D/1878/38/1010/3/88. Informant was Edward Skey, who was present at his death. Cause of death was senile decay.

      POTENTIAL FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS:
      - Given the year of birth (1789) implied by his age at death, and the lack of his name being used again in the line of John and George Dolan, it is possible that Arthur Dolan was their uncle and the brother of "[John]" Dolan (whose name is inferred by the naming practice of John and George Dolan for their oldest sons, as well as in family oral history passed down through John J. Dolan (1884-1971)).
      - Arthur Dolan transferred his lease to Edward Skeagh 16 years before his death, and an Edward Skey was present at Arthur's death and served as the informant on his death record. This suggests that Edward Skey might have married a daughter of Arthur Dolan, and that Arthur continued to live with them as a retired farmer (in 1862, he would have been 73 years old).
      - Edward Skey's wife was named Alice, and she died in 1881 at the age of 60 years (according to her death record). An 1821 birth for her is consistent with Arthur being her father (as he would have been 32 years old at the time).
