Simon, Baby Boy (1757-1757) - Baptism
Simon, Baby Boy (1757-1757) - Baptism
1757 baptismal record for an unnamed boy of Levin and Anna Maria Simon, from the parish register of St. Vitus RC Church, Willebadessen, Germany.

  • Notes
    • BIRTH:
      - Month and year of birth would be June 1757, given his baptismal date of 19 June 1757 in the baptismal register (Taufen, 1653-1763, page 211, first entry) in the parish records of St. Vitus RC Church, Willebadessen, Germany. No name given in record, but was described as the "filius," so a boy. Parents named Levin Siemens and Anna Maria Wittkop. Record available at https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/paderborn/DE_EBAP_12110/KB001-01-T/?pg=212.

      CHRISTENING:
      - Full date and location given in his baptismal record in the baptismal register (Taufen, 1653-1763, page 211, first entry) in the parish records of St. Vitus RC Church, Willebadessen, Germany. Witness--Henricus Haberhausen. Record available at https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/paderborn/DE_EBAP_12110/KB001-01-T/?pg=212.

      DEATH:
      - A blank was left in baptismal record where the child's name should be. Several other baptismal records in this period are also incomplete, so it is not clear what inference to draw from this information gap. It might indicate that the child did not live long after baptism--although, for some other records with missing names, this is not the case. There is not a subsequent record of a "missing" child in this marriage to assign to this record, though. No firm conclusion as to the death of this child, then, can be arrived at, based on his incomplete baptismal record.
      - In addition to the lack of name in the baptismal register, no death record for him has been found in the parish records for St. Vitus RC Church, Willebadessen. There are a few instances of death records for infants in the period 1757-1759 (but not as many as one might expect). The death records from January 1760 to March 1778 (when a new pastor was appointed) uniformly do not have any deaths of children in them--the youngest age at which a death is recorded was 15 years of age. So, if he survived past birth, it is quite possible that he died as a child in the period from 1760-1778, and his death was not recorded.
