"Robert MESSLER
"Robert, age 81, of Midlothian, Va., formerly of Manahawkin, N.J., died August 21, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Messler; and his eldest son, Robert J. Messler. He is survived by two sons, Richard Gregory Messler and his wife, Dianna, Drew Messler and his wife, Laurie; a daughter, Pamela Ann Gallagher and her husband, Jerry; seven grandchildren, Maggie Buto and her husband, Ed, Kyle Kibler, Melissa, Gregory and Robert Messler, J.D. and Michael Messler. Bob spent 20 years in the insurance industry before pursuing a career as a high school teacher and retired from Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, N.J. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Akutan and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of North Plainfield, N.J., The Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Church of the Epiphany of Midlothian, Va. His lifetime love was his family, church and friends. He was a friend to all. Bob had a passion for civil war history, college sports, especially Seton Hall University Basketball, the beach, and entertaining friends and family. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Catholic Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Dr., Richmond, Va., where a Vigil Service will be held 6 p.m. Sunday. A Funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Monday at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany, followed by a reception. Graveside service with Military Honors to follow at 2 p.m. Monday at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Area SPCA and/or Catholic Church of the Epiphany.
