      "Dorothy Carr Dougherty
      "Dorothy Carr Dougherty Age 83, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died suddenly of a stroke August 20, 2003 in Santa Barbara, CA. She had relocated to Carpinteria, CA in 1998.
      Dot was born May 15, 1920 to Walter J. Carr and Frances Lockett Carr in Philadelphia, PA. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and Goldey Beacom College. Her career included executive secretary at Hercules Incorporated, administrative assistant to the principal at Ursuline Academy, manager of job placement at the Wilmington Senior Center and mother. Her various volunteer activities included executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council and docent for the Winterthur, Hagley and Rockwood museums.
      Dot was predeceased by her husband, Jack P. Dougherty, who died in 1982; her granddaughter, Jennifer Kane, who died in 1986; and brother, Walter J. Carr, Jr., who died in 1968.
      Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and James R. McBride of San Diego, CA, Jacqueline and Wistar Kane of Chadds Ford, PA, Christine and Robert DeVries of Carpinteria, CA; her sister, Frances A. Carr of San Diego, CA; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
      A funeral mass was held August 25, 2003 in Montecito, CA, Entombment is private in Wilmington, DE.
      In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall St., New York City, NY 10005; or to the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, Inc., PO Box 613, Annapolis, MD 21404.
