The 1851 Census of Ireland was destroyed by fire in 1922. This record lists his parents as Patrick and Mary McCanny. Copy of a summary of his Old Age Pension file available on the internet (for purchase) at ireland-genealogy.com (ID No. 38522), a copy of which is in the possession of Robert M. Simon.

NAMES: The most common spelling for his surname is McCanney. In Irish Civil Registration records of his marriage and his son Patrick's birth, his name is given as Francis McCanny. To his descendants in the United States, he was known as Frank Hughmore McKenna, but this is a function of the decision of many of those descendants to change the spelling of their surname, once in America. His death record gives his name as Frank McCanney, and McCanney is also the spelling used in the parish register in Drumquin for all his children's baptisms.
MARRIAGE:
Francis McCanny identified as the husband of Mary Dolan in Irish Civil Marriage Record available (by purchase) on www.rootsireland.ie. Copy in possession of Robert M. Simon. Full date of marriage given as 6 June 1879, and place of marriage given as "Aghyarron RC CH, Parish of Termonamongan." This is St. Patrick's RC Church, Aghyaran, where John Dolan, her father, is buried.
Frank Hughmore McKenna identified as the husband of Mary Dolan in oral family history related by Teresa McElholme (nee McKenna), her daughter, to Patrick Teague in 1988, and subsequently communicated personally to Robert M. Simon in September 2011.
