Notes - BIRTH:
- Identified as "John Dolin," the father of Anne Dolin, in her 1877 Marriage Record to Michael Mullan.
- Identified as "John Dolan," the father of John Dolan, in his 1884 Marriage Record to Susan McGuire. Given that this, his eldest known son, was born in 1847, a birth year for John Dolan prior to 1830 is indicated.
- Identified as John Dolan in the 1913 Philadelphia City Death Certificate of his son, Michael Dolan.
- Identified as John Dolan in the 1914 Pennsylvania Death Certificate of his daughter, Ellen McGuire.
- Year of birth would be 1804-1805, according to age (78 years) on tombstone in St. Patrick's RC graveyard, Aghyaran, Killeter, County Tyrone, Ireland. Photograph of tombstone at http://www.irishgraveyards.ie/graveyard_images/Aghyaran/aghnaPA190092.JPG. This tombstone is linked to this John Dolan by several pieces of evidence:
-- St. Patrick's RC Church in Aghyaran is the closest Roman Catholic Church to Segronan Townland outside Killeter.
-- The tombstone mentions an apparent wife, Margaret Dolan, who is also named as the wife of John Dolan in the Irish Old Age Pension application of their son, John Dolan (b.1847), and this claim was found to be substantiated at the time (1917) by reference to the 1851 Census of Ireland, which was destroyed in 1922.
-- An identical date of death is on the Irish Civil Registration death record for John Dolin of Seegronan, and the informant is identified as his son, Michael Dolin of Seegronan.
-- A 1887 marriage record of another son of John Dolan (William Dolan) states that John Dolan was dead, which is consistent with the 1883 death date.
-- An adjacent tombstone of identical design, erected in 1895, is for Hugh and Jane McGuire of Segronan, who share the same last name as the wife of John Dolan (b. 1847), consistent with this link.
MARRIAGE:
- John Dolan and "Marg." Kane were identified as the parents of Michael Dolan in his 1913 Philadelphia City Death Certificate.
- John Dolan and Margaret McKane identified as the parents of Michael Dolan and Baby Girl Dolan in their Irish Civil Birth Records available by purchase through www.rootsireland.ie.
- John Dolin and Margaret Dolin, formerly McKane, are listed as the parents of Michael ("Mickey") Dolin in his 1867 birth record in the Irish Civil Registers on LDS FHL Microfilm No. 101141, page 29, entry 420. Their address is given as Segronan, Killeter, in this record.
- Full date of 22 February 1846 and location of Pettigo, County Donegal, given in Pettigo parish records in LDS FHL Microfilm No. 926049, Item 2 ("Baptisms, 1877-1880; marriages, 1836-1881"). Pages not numbered but it is the top entry on its page. Some of the text is obscured in the microfilm as the right-hand margin is lost in the fold of the binding. "Jo[annis] Dolan" is described in the Latin entry as being "de Termonmongan", which comports with him being from the Parish of Termonamongan in County Tyrone, where Killeter and Seegronan Townland are located, and not the Parish of Carn, where Pettigo is located. Margaret McKane was apparently from Carn Parish. Witnesses to the marriage were "Joannis Kelm" and "Patritio McKane," apparently Patrick McKane. There was a Kelm family during this era in Lettercran and Tievemore townlands, near Seegronan. The marriage was performed by "N. Ryan," the famous pastor Fr. Neal Ryan (1790-1879) of the Carn Parish in Pettigo.

ADDRESSES:
- According to oral family history from John Dolan (1884-1971) to Margaret Callaghan, the Dolan family had two farms in Seegronan Townland, one of which was called Rock Farm, because there was a large rock in front of the barn.
- Earliest record of living in Seagronan Townland, Termonamongan Parish, County Tyrone given in the Index to Tithe Applotment Book for Termonamongan Parish, 1828, transcribed and compiled by Len Swindley, online at http://www.cotyroneireland.com/tithe/termonamongan.html The index has an entry in "Seagronan Townland" for "Doalin, John and partners". This entry may refer to this John Dolan or to his father, who was also named John Dolan.
- Listed as living in "Termonmongan" in 1846 church marriage record.
- Listed as resident in Seegronan Townland, Termonamongan Parish, Omagh West Barony, County Tyrone, in 1851 Census of Ireland entry for John and Margaret Dolan, noted in 1917 Old Age Pension Application of John Dolan (b. 1847). The original 1851 Census of Ireland was destroyed by fire in 1922.
- The family oral history of having two farms in Seegronan Townland finds support in the 1857 Griffith's Valuation for County Tyrone, as posted on the internet. The listing shows two lots on which Dolans were tenants. One for William Dolan and the other for a set of Dolans: John Dolan, George Dolan, Patrick Dolan, and Arthur Dolan, all tenants of Michael and Frederick Smith, who apparently owned the land in that area. Interestingly, their neighbors include the Meehans, the McMenamins, and the Maguires -- names that recur in later Dolan history. The best man at Patrick Dolan's 1881 wedding in Philadelphia was Patrick McMenamin, and the wife of John Dolan who is enumerated as living on Seegronan Road in 1901 was Susan McGuire. The internet record may be viewed at:

- Address given as Segronan, Killeter District, in 1867 birth record of his son Michael ("Mickey") Dolin in the Irish Civil Birth Registers, LDS FHL Microfilm No 101141, page 29, entry 420.
- Two children of John Dolan were listed as living in Segronan, Strabane District, County Tyrone, Ireland, at the time of their marriages (1877 and 1884 marriage records for Anne Dolin and John Dolan, respectively). The fact that Anne Dolan, John Dolan's 22 year-old daughter, is also listed as living in Segronan (and without a listed occupation) is consistent with this being the family home.
OCCUPATION: Farmer (1867 birth record of son Michael Dolin, 1877 marriage record of Anne Dolin, 1879 marriage record of Mary Dolin, 1884 marriage record for John Dolan, 1887 marriage record of William Dolan)
DEATH:
- Full date of death of 27 September 1883 and location of Seegronan given in Irish Civil Registration death record for John Dolin. Informant identified as Michael Dolin, a son, resident in Seegronan Townland.
- Full date of death of 27 September 1883 on tombstone in Aghyaran Catholic graveyard, Killeter, County Tyrone, Ireland. Photograph of tombstone at http://www.irishgraveyards.ie/graveyard_images/Aghyaran/aghnaPA190092.JPG.
BURIAL: Graveyard for St. Patrick's RC Church, Aghyaran, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Inscription reads, in part "Pray for the soul of John Dolan, who died Sepr 27th 1883 Aged 78 years"
OTHER RELATIVES:
The tombstone in Aghyaran Catholic graveyard in Killeter also bears the name of William Dolan, who died 20 October 1896, aged 89 years. This would put his year of birth in 1806-1807, so he is likely a brother of John Dolan.
As mentioned above, John Dolan of Seegronan Townland was listed in the 1851 Griffith's Valuation of Tenements along with George, Arthur, and Patrick Dolan, presumably also relatives.
