"Elizabeth S. Otterbein, 75, homemaker, bookkeeper
"Elizabeth S. Otterbein, retired bakery bookkeeper and homemaker, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at her Lake Montebello home. She was 75.
"Mrs. Otterbein worked for more than 40 years until retiring in the 1990s as bookkeeper for Otterbein's Bakery. The bakery, which is operated by a fourth generation of the family, was founded on Fort Avenue in 1881. Known for its wafer-thin sugar cookies, the bakery now is in Woodlawn.
"Born and raised in Govans, Elizabeth Smith was a graduate of St. Ann's Business School.
Mrs. Otterbein enjoyed listening to classical music, reading and decorating her home. She also liked to entertain family and friends.
"She was a longtime communicant of the Roman Catholic Shrine of the Little Flower, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered Wednesday.
"She is survived by her husband of many years, Joseph Otterbein Sr.; four sons, Steven Otterbein of Charles Village, Paul Otterbein of Hamilton, Mark Otterbein of Eldersburg and Joseph Otterbein Jr. of Shrewsbury, Pa.; four daughters, Frances Moran of Hampden, Beth Ohrenschall of Guilford, Karen Hunter of Charles Village and Joan Kilduff of South Fallsburg, N.Y.; two brothers, Thomas Smith of Miami and Paul Smith of Baltimore; and 24 grandchildren.
"Another son, Michael Otterbein, died this year."
