BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH (Written by F. Anthony Krogh):
"Born in Arima, Trinidad, on January 24, 1904 and died of cancer in San Fernando, Trinidad on February 29, 1980. He lived his early life at his grandmother's estate "Candelaria" near Arima. As a schoolboy, he attended St. Mary's College, Port of Spain. Afterwards, he worked in the Colonial Secretary's Office in Port of Spain. His brother Andre, upon returning to Trinidad, convinced him to study medicine and paid the expenses for his education in England. Robert studied medicine at the University of Bristol, where he qualified as a physician and surgeon. He obtained the degrees M.B., Ch.B. (Bristol), M.R.C.S. (England), and L.R.C.P. (England). While studying in England, he visited the Krogh family in Denmark, and maintained a connection to his Danish relations throughout his life.
"Robert returned to Trinidad to work first with the Civil Service and later for 18 years as Chief Medical Officer of the Ste. Madeliene Sugar Company at it major processing facility, Usine Ste. Madeliene near San Fernando. He carried on private practice in San Fernando where he lived for about 45 years. He was a highly respected and admired person who maintained a very devoted clientele of patients who sought him out even after his official retirement.
"He was a founding member of the Rotary Club of San Fernando, a devoted member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a major supporter of their Home for the Elderly at Independence Avenue, San Fernando.
"In 1979 he received the Humming Bird Medal (Gold) from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for long and meritorious service in the field of medicine. In that same year he received a special award from the Medical Association of Trinidad and Tobago for devoted service in the profession of medicine.
"Robert married Germaine Marie d'Abadie (b. March 9, 1906, d. December 28, 1985) on May 2, 1931 at the Rosary Church, Port of Spain. Germaine was of French ancestry descended from one of the earliest European settlers in Trinidad.
"Robert and Germaine were very fond of traveling and visited the Caribbean islands, North America, and Europe at regular intervals, usually with a number of their children. They also built a holiday home "Windermere" on the island of Monos off the coast of Trinidad where all the family enjoyed swimming, boating, and fishing. Both Robert and Germaine were devout practicing Roman Catholics who were very involved with local church affairs."
